the
17th Annual High School Programming Contest:  Friday, May 2, 2008

We expect about 100 students from area high schools (from as far as Kalamazoo) and their teachers to participate in the event.

This Contest is held under the auspices of the CSESP Department and the ACM Student Chapter on campus. ACM is the professional organization for computer scientists. The event is financially supported by The Flint Area School Employees Credit Union, The Auto Owners Insurance Company, UM-Flint’s Annual Fund, and a few other local businesses.

The agenda for the day is given below. The computer science faculty as well as the students of the ACM student chapter would appreciate your participation at least during the registration period and/or during the luncheon and awards ceremony. No RSVP is needed.

Over the years, UM-Flint’s Vice Chancellor for Institutional Development has graciously agreed to support a one semester tuition scholarship for (up to 3) winning team members and a $1000 tuition reimbursement for (up to 3) runner up team members. In the past about a dozen of the best area high school students have enrolled at UM-Flint under this scholarship support.

High school students in teams of 3 are challenged to solve up to 6 computer programming problems over a 4 hour time period. The contest is run on the same lines as the national and international competitions and is graded on speed and accuracy.

We expect our benefactors to be present during the luncheon and awards ceremony.  Hope you will be able to make it and looking forward to seeing you there.

 Thank you or your support.
